15cmd saucer with pretty butterfly transfer..this looks similar to a CL saucer, even the backstamp but the last line says Made in Philippines Shocked

Ha!!! It makes me laugh to see the Genuine Ironstone mark in the Phillippines [sic]
too, as only Crown Lynn used that term. Alan Topham told me that he came up with that name ..... ^_O

Actually it was a bit of an inside joke.

Iron was the last thing wanted in the clay as it left black spots but the name Ironstone sounded strong like Stoneware and much better than earthenware

Genuine Ironstone is a really great name for crockery I agree. Alan said that it came about so that ware with that backstamp could be sold at McKenzies and Woolworths where the Crown Lynn backstamp wasn't allowed. The annoying thing with this backstamp is that there is never a pattern name when it is used and there were hundreds and hundreds of patterns with the Genuine Ironstone stamp.
It's great to get insights from inside information Dale .....

lots of reasons for that Ev but mainly production driven.

Non CL was often Kelston then Genuine Ironstone and usually not open stock or replaceable. By having a standard back stamp the factory could produce a underglaze murray curvex design like the grey Fabrique (hope I got that right) and then apply stock transfers to produce variations such as Serenade.

Like wise they could produce heaps of plain back stamped plain white and then decorate as needed with transfers.

I will need to find and post some examples.

Interesting Dale as we have 5 pages of patterns that we haven't found names for yet, but many are pieces from dinner sets, so they must have a name and number. Check them out here -

Each photo has a link to the original post if you scroll down the page.
We have spent countless hours at the Auckland Museum and now the Portage Museum finding names for patterns and have over 1,000 now that do have names ...
