Crown Lynn element for an electric heater ....

Post  Ev on Thu 20 Jan - 10:44

Info courtesy of hon-john who kindly sent me this element.
These were made by Crown Lynn Technical Ceramics Ltd during the 1950's for Thorne Electrical who had a factory just down the road from Crown Lynn. They used the dry press method to make them out of porcelain. A wire was wound round them and there is a hole at each end for the wire to go through. Hemara told John that the wire was very brittle and a lot broke and as there were a lot of pigeons in the rafters the staff would throw the broken bits at them to try to chase them out. Tom Clark was not amused .....

Technical Ceramics made an extensive range of products. This photo from a 1959 manufacturers guide shows some of them:

Crown Lynn Technical Ceramics Ltd was incorporated on 14.12.1973 wth its registered office at Ceramic House, 1-3 Totara Avenue, New Lynn. Its name was changed to Morlynn Industries Ltd on 3.9.81.
