Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
Does this base remind you of Crown Lynn animal bases sunny? That is ... closed with a hole.
Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
Yes Ev, it does. Although I noted that the kiwi vases 156 & 165 have no hole for some reason, so not sure what the kiwi will have until we find one.
Here is a pic of the 165, laying dog and deer, and their bases.

Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
Hi there, for years I have been trying to find out if my frog money box was crown Lynn and found an old post of yours with a photo of one just like mine in a tuxedo. Can you tell me anything about it please. I was intending to sell him at some stage but have no idea of what to start him at. He is in beautiful condition, but I need to scale down a lot of my collections. Any help you can give me would be appreciated thank you.

Hello Goldielocks, and welcome to the site !! The frog and the kiwi seem to sell for around the same amounts. There is a kiwi listed at the momenthttp://www.trademe.co.nz/pottery-glass/porcelain-pottery/crown-lynn/other/auction-841677223.htm but it has been on for a wee while. Good luck with your sale.

Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
Hi there Goldielocks
My guess is that the Frog and the Kiwi money boxes were made in the mid to late 1980's. As we haven't found the records for these yet, we don't know what the description says, but hopefully the Portage Ceramic Museum in New Lynn has this information.

I've just had confirmation from an ex Crown Lynn employee that this is the Crown Lynn Kiwi, although the Crown Lynn Kiwi will be a third bigger than the Studio Ceramics one.
Can you add measurements please Tony ....?
Now we need to find a Crown Lynn one!
Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
The base is 98mm at its longest measurement and 56mm at its widest. It's about 75mm at its highest point.

The Crown Lynn Kiwi is 100mm or 10cm high so there is the difference in size.
I haven't seen this Kiwi on Trademe, but they have to be out there.
Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
Thank you Eve. I did read something a few years ago about it being called kermit, they made special mention that it wasn't the muppet kermit. I can't for the life of me remember where I read it.

Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
Today I went to an Antiques Fair with one thing in mind and that was to find a Crown Lynn Kiwi. How exciting to see what looked like a Crown Lynn Kiwi and I pounced on it and bought it right away, never mind that they didn't have a tape measure and neither did I. Stall holders jaw dropped when I told him that it looked like the Crown Lynn Kiwi ....... No marks on the base on this one so I was very hopeful.
This is the other side ... his beak looks so weird from this view!
and the base ...
Get home and measure my treasure and it's around 8cm high which makes it a Studio Ceramics Kiwi .... bah humbug, but I'm pleased to have found him as I know that I will recognise the real deal when I see it

Ev, I know that feeling! But never mind as you said it will help you to find the real deal.
There are these really small tape measure bands that come with Christmas crackers which would be ideal to fit in a hand bag. Or just cut a normal size one to about 40 or 50cm to make it smaller. Just an idea.

Unglazed kiwi
Re Shanx's kiwi. I have this unglazed kiwi which is exactly the same as the olive green kiwi photographed by TonyK on Sun, Feb 5th.
The beak is slimmer and doesn't go right to the front edge like the others, and directly below the eye is a fern frond on the base which the others don't have.
Does someone know who made which please?
The base is about 100mm long by 58mm at the widest. 80mm high, which is Studio Ceramics??

Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
I just had look on Google to find out if it could be a Hobby Ceramics greenware or bisque. So far I haven't found your white Kiwi shape.
But I found a Sylvac Kiwi that looks like the C/L Kiwi with vase.

Yes the measurements don't add up and the form is different too. I checked it out yesterday as I got excited thinking it may be the ONE.
Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi

Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
The clay is very white isn't it?it looks like it was painted rather than glazed, and the base is terribly finished...
I don't know about this one.

Re: Shanx's Kiwi, Studio Ceramics Kiwi and Crown Lynn Kiwi
This Kiwi looks closer to the sketch that is in the gallery.
Not numbered and measures 76mm H by 98mm long.
Could it be the missing Kiwi?

Hi sid. Did you get to the bottom of who made your kiwi figure that you suggested was the “missing kiwi” I have one of the same model with a retailers label to base “Carlton Jewellery, 44 Willis street, Wellington NZ”
