Dorothy Thorpe Monterrey Ball Handle Gravy Jug

Post  Ducks Nuts on Tue 10 Jan - 14:27

I have in my collection this Monterrey Gravy Jug, I find it unusual in terms of its size, it seems massive, out of proportion relative to the rest of the ball handle range, and the ball itself is about twice the size of the regular balls. I have posted a picture of a regular ball handled creamer next to it to give you an idea of the difference in size. You folk agree? unusual?

It's marvellous to see a photo on here ..... thank you Very Happy
Does it have a number on the base at all?

Thanks again Smile
I could find the ball handled milk jug number - 6010, but not the gravy jug.
These gravy jugs must be few are far between huh?
Even Billy Apple didn't have any in his collection at the Crown Lynn Exhibition ...

Yes I'm thinking they are rare too, I have all 6 Dorothy Thorpe patterns in my collection but this is the only gravy jug I have.

I would have thought it would fetch a little more than that, not sure if the absence of a back stamp made it worth any less?

And here was me thinking that was an awesome price Razz
It's definitely Dorothy Thorpe .... surely a backstamp wouldn't have made a difference? But then I don't collect her wares ....?

Well I am best described as a Dorothy Thorpe collector with a minor fetish for less interesting Crown Lynn pieces Razz
