There is a considered opinion that the Air New Zealand Liquer bottles were made by a potter in Glen Eden and not Crown Lynn. Based on the way they feel and the fact I have read this from two independent sources - I tend to lean this way myself. I think the bottle needs to be moved to NZ Pottery generally and of course the Air New Zealand monogram section.

By chance I found the info about these bottles that I came across a few years ago and couldn't find again.

This page shows all of the mini bottle buildings -

zealand - Air New Zealand miniature building bottles are not Crown Lynn. Empty The Air New Zealand Whisky Bottles were made at Clay Craft

Post  Jeremy Ashford Fri 31 Jan 2014, 2:53 am

Whilst the Air New Zealand buildings were probably designed and mastered by Cerographics of Glen Eden (as has been documented elsewhere) I have been told that they were actually produced at the Clay Craft factory.

This information comes from Linda at Coal Town Traders (aka Curios and Collectables) in Hikurangi. (For the moment I forget Linda's surname.) Linda worked at Clay Craft in the 1980s.

I have been meaning to formally interview Linda, but she is a busy person, running the second hand store and cafe so I have been happy to make do with answers to my immediate questions about Clay Craft as they arise. This process seems to work well.

During one of our chats on a previous visit Linda mentioned making little buildings and sticking transfers on them. As I can only think of one set of buildings I took my Air New Zealand "Ponsonby Fire Station" along this afternoon and she confirmed my assumption that they were indeed manufactured at Clay Craft.

Because the design and mastering of the Air New Zealand models was performed elsewhere it may or may not be appropriate to post photos in the Clay Craft gallery but I do suggest, however, that shifting the topic to Clay Craft would be an appropriate action.

What do you think, Ev?

That is excellent information Jeremy and it all helps.
I understand that more than one pottery made these bottles, so lets keep it open and hope that they all come to light.

Post  Granny Sat 11 Oct 2014, 8:25 pm

I have a small collection and as I have read, I am unsure if they were produced by a couple of different companies. Some of the houses are more cream in colour and possibly a little larger than the others that have a more browner appearance. Does anyone have any more information.

I also have a mug with a motif of the old $2 note - Reserve Bank New Zealand - does anyone know who made these.

Hello, many thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, it does look like those - my dear Great Aunt was an avid collector of collectables. I have been fortunate to receive the years of her lifelong hobby. Although I have given a lot away and my husband thrown a lot away (unfotunately he has no interest at all) I appreciate and respect her efforts. I am not sure how to load a picture on your site and not sure if you would like one. I thank you for your time and knowledge - greatly appreciated.

Jan Scoones is a designer regarding these houses.
That is probably where the Crown Lynn connection came from.

Te Toi Uku has her as the designer for all of the examples they have in their collection.

I have been bumping into Jan Scoones name many times lately, then at the Market on Sunday her son and his partner turned up and showed us folios of her work.
She has passed away, but her talents live on.
The Museum is keen to get copies of her work.

Unfortunately the link to the Miniature bottle collector info about these Air NZ houses has changed into a sales page.
How annoying!

Yay found a new link to the air nz mini bottles:

https://www.minibottlelibrary.com/mbl/alpha/air-new-zealand/

These were made by Robin Overall's Ceragraphic pottery in Henderson and also at Kare Kare.
