I'm pretty sure this is a Crown Lynn jug from the fractionated era. The lid is exactly the same mould as the Ambrico ones earlier in this thread. The grey clay is also one they were using around this time and I would say the glaze is a typical CL blue drip/trickle one. You are right about the 5197.

So, it seems that all those jugs on the middle shelf are Beelectric, http://electricjugs.ning.com/photo/beelectric-electric-jug?context=latest this one has the sticker on it. There is an unknown maker one shown,  http://electricjugs.ning.com/photo/unknown-maker-made-in-new?context=latest a BNB (what does that stand for?? Mine was advertised as BNB) http://electricjugs.ning.com/photo/bnb-new-zealand?context=latest
I wish they would show the bases, that might help us! sunny

Post  Jeremy Ashford Sun 11 Aug - 18:20

There is a yellow 778 kettle with one day left to run on eBay.

If anyone wants it it'll be about $120 all-up once the postage is paid.

I have the 782 kettle, which I got off trademe from memory. Has a wee crack on the top but there's no element in there anymore. There's a socket behind the lid but I assume the plug/cord and element were removed...

Same yellow as well...

We are holding back on the 782 Dasiem, waiting for more confirmation.
Does yours have Crown Lynn on the base?
Is it the same as the 782 on page 2 of this thread?
I can see it in your first photos on the 'Show Us Your Shelves' topic, but it's very hard to see. Did you post it on the site somewhere when you got it? If not can you post a photo of the pot and base in this thread so that we can compare them please.

number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Empty Crown Lynn kettle marked 240 V 1500 W

Post  Jeremy Ashford Thu 29 Aug - 17:01

I have just received a Crown Lynn electric kettle (advertised as Temuka),
glazed in streaky lapis blue, body i/s and o/s, top o/s only, clear glaze on base.
It's shiny like brand new.

It appears to be a 778 but the only marking is:

240.V.
1500.W.

incised in the centre of the base.

Minor chip on inner rim and, 4mm firing crack at edge of fixing point on lid.
The inside appears to be intact.
I'm inclined to find a lead and fire it up!
(Fresh water does not conduct electricity.)

The only apparent difference I can see from photos of examples by mumof1
is that the little hole on the main body adjacent to the handle is to the right,
not the left.

Any ideas of age for this one?

I'm guessing that's not one dollar.

Here's mine. Have another look:

The blue appears less intense at home than in the photos, certainly less so than the one in the shop.

number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Empty kettle CL or Temuka

Post  Jeremy Ashford Fri 20 Dec - 9:48

Finally some pictures of my kettle.
It was sold on trademe from Taranaki as "Temuka".
number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Kettle10
I think it is the same colour as the one posted by teaandcoffee
http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t3275p15-crown-lynn-russell-hobbs-coffee-perk-electric-jugs#11678
Perhaps mine's inkier but that could be the lighting.
(I've sat the photos side by side to compare.)
number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Kettle11
Only damage is a wee chip inside the lip. 4mm firing chip on the pivot hole.
number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Kettle12
Seller said "not in working order" but it looks complete so I reckon I could fill it up, pop a lead on, and go. (I have a gas stove and kettle so it would just take up room.)
The incised or impressed mark is by the same hand as the lower illustration in Val's Crown Lynn Collector's Handbook, on page 112.

number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Kettle13
This little hole is on the right of the handle on mine and teaandcoffee's,
left on some others. I don't know how significant that is.

Ev and bopmum have suggested that the glaze of teaandcoffee's one and mine, respectively, could be Temuka, but neither match the Temuka glaze comparison from bopmum. http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t3275p30-crown-lynn-russell-hobbs-coffee-perk-electric-jugs#13194
The little hole by the handle matches teandcoffee's one too, but not two Crown Lynn examples from mumof1 on which it is on the left.
http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t3275-crown-lynn-russell-hobbs-coffee-perk-electric-jugs#11044
The base mark does not match teaandcoffee's one but instead matches one represented as Crown Lynn in the Collector's Handbook.
The element is what I take as the later type.

Whichever company made it is no problem to me, but I am curious.
And curious as to date of production ie 40s or 60s if Crown Lynn,
whenever if Temuka.

Post  Jeremy Ashford Fri 20 Dec - 14:16

I've just been reviewing the electric jug topics and

I don't think it was spelled here out in either that the "Ecolite":

http://electricjugs.ning.com/photo/dscf1545/next?context=user

is the same kettle shape as Tarvster's 785 in the other forum topic:

To confuse us even more. I saw a powder blue Russle Hobs electric kettle without the Made In England. It cost $65 which is a bit much for me because I don't collect kettles. The shop also had the same powder blue kettle with the Made In England stamp which was $35.

This one is a different shape again, I didn't purchase it, but I got photos!
number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Dsc05719
This one is numbered 782, and has the same numbers PS 203 on the base, like the jug that Tarvster sent us http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t3470-crown-lynn-electric-jug#11280 so perhaps we should put these in the gallery also?  sunny

This is very interesting.
Crown Lynn number 782 in the gallery is the Cook & Serve coffee can.
The recent addition of definitions of other cans to the gallery confirms this.

Is this an alternative Crown Lynn numbering system or not Crown Lynn?
This could also have consequences for the provenance the other "P.S. 203." kettle referred to in the quote.

ALSO
Re Russell Hobbs above: maybe the "Made in England" refers just to the metal parts.
Maybe mine IS a New Zealand kettle. I'm not holding my breath here. I'm over it.

Thanks haselnuss for raising the possibility that blue Russell Hobbs percs may have been made here.

Something I found at Portage gives me hope that my "Temuka" kettle, seen below may yet be Crown Lynn. They have a collection of shards (from a kettle yet) in what looks to me to be an identical glaze. I have viewed images side by side but of course cannot post a montage using a Portage photo so you will have to view it here:
http://www.nzmuseums.co.nz/account/3384/object/491118/Collection_of_shards#prettyPhoto

Here's my kettle again:
number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Kettle10
number - Electric Kettles / Jugs - Page 2 Kettle12

I have included the second photo so keen-eyed observers can see that while the glaze may match, the writing on the base is in a different hand. I repeat my earlier comment:
"The incised or impressed mark is by the same hand as the lower illustration in Val's Crown Lynn Collector's Handbook, on page 112."
