Orzel "Lattice Ware" (basket weave, basketweave)

UPDATE After reading Gail Henry on Orzel I now know the correct name for this ware.
Henry also indicates that the glaze I collect is the most common, as I had started to conclude for myself.

I've taken a shine to Orzel's basketweave coffee sets!

When I first saw them on trademe I really thought ho-hum, but then I spotted a few pieces at the local hospice shop and had to have them.

Since then I've acquired coffee and sugar canisters (complete with original lids), and have just received a recent trademe purchase of coffee pot, milk, sugar, and four cups (giving a total of 6 cups now).
I'm looking for a tea canister in the same glaze.

Mine are all in dark reddy-brown coffee-coloured (black coffee!) glaze, with a froth of milk at the top, and a clean white inside. I've seen examples in other coloured glazes including yellow, orange, and blue. The yellow is a bit bland but the blue and orange are crazy. Black coffee looks great in mine, against the white inside.

I've had to clear a shelf for this lot.

I've got a photo as far as my desktop but need to review how to post it.

Here's my Orzel Basket-weave so far.
I have six matching mugs but only one is shown.

Left to right: Coffee pot, milk jug (or "creamer"), sugar bowl, mug, coffee canister, sugar canister.
The lids on all three items are identical.
The shine of the glaze obscures the diagonally-placed "Coffee" and "Sugar" labels.
Enlargement doesn't help much.

Orzel made three sizes of jug in the basket-weave pattern,
the largest the same height and diameter as the coffee pot and canisters,
the smallest a match for the sugar bowl and mug.
They also made a matching tea canister. I haven't seen one for Milo!
I don't think there were any saucers for this set, and I have yet to see a teapot.

The same design was also glazed in yellow, orange over brown, brown over brown, and blue, as seen on trademe.
This is my preferred colouring: the brown is so coffee-ee. The insides are a clean white glaze.

I have seen these around Tauranga, but they always seem to be priced a little to high.  I also like the pattern but the top glaze reminds me of a frothy beer mug.

The satin glaze shows the writing "Sugar" a lot clearer than in my own photo.

I decided to buy a large Orzel jug on tm because it matched my coffee set.
Surprise, surprise, I found the middle-size one at Avondale flea market for $3,
and picked up another small one for an extra buck.

I'll post them as a set of three when the third one arrives.

The base is unglazed & rough & the whole thing slighly askew. 
I'm guessing its a baking dish its heavy with a thick base.

It looks like a basket weave basket!
The flat base is interesting: I guess there is a reason for that.

Lots of basket weave on tm at the moment, including one with a random lid.

I have the large jug now.
Orzel jugs, three sizes 16cm, 11cm, 8.5cm.
I'm starting to think this is the most common glaze in the basket weave design. I've had pieces from Hikurangi to Glen Eden and not seen much else.


I picked up a mug at the Retro Fair just to have something different in a different glaze. Very plain: shiny over satin, light tan/caramel colour.

Point of interest-- I have a few Orzel Basket-weave cups and a Ginger jar. All the backstamps are slightly different
