3033 Rim Lip Cup with 3024 handle

Post  Ev on Thu 23 Jan - 14:22

This is another cup shape that we are working on.
This cup shape goes with Safari d202, Monaco d204, Calypso d253 and Snowdrop.

The 3024 is the Apollo cup -

So the 3033 has that squashed handle.

There are two other shapes in the records that have the 3024 handle.
The 3033 Rim Lip Cup with 3024 handle and the 3063 Short Taper like 3033 - use 3024 handle.

The only cups we know of that use that handle are these two....

Do you know of any others with this shaped handle?

Hmm I have this short one but it may be the same cup?
I think it belongs to Sapphire Pattern?

Fi sent us one of her cups in this shape and suggests "it will be 3033 as there are 3 with brown outside and different coloured speckled interiors like the background colour on Safari etc"

This is either Guinevere or Lancelot which gives us more info re the patterns that used this cup ...

Ev, I have compared pictures and see that the 3033 does have a rim at the lip but 3063 does not. Otherwise I can see no difference.

fi's appears to be 3063.

All of mine look to have slight rims.
Now I've noticed that the measurements are a little different.

3033 - H65 d84mm

3063 - H64 W108 d85

So I will go back and check those out tomorrow.

Re: 3033 Rim Lip Cup with 3024 handle

Post  Ev on Sun 7 Dec - 18:56

It seems that I do have two different cups in this shape.
The brown one doesn't appear to have any thickening on the lip.
The Charm one has a slight thickening which doesn't stand out, but can be felt.

The handle on the brown cup is higher than on the Charm one, but that could just be from when they were attached.

The next thing I noticed were the bases.  The brown cup has a 42mm base and the Charm one is 47mm.  The brown base fits inside the Charm base.  Also the Charm footring is more pronounced and turns out.  The brown one doesn't so this confirms that these are two different shapes and will have different saucers.

As the measurements given by the Portage are only a mm different for each number I can't compare them that way.  I will go along with their findings of the time frames.  1973 for the 3033 and 1983 for the 3063 and this is the same as the records we have.  Also they mention that the 3063 has a small foot.  So the brown cup is the 3033 and the Charm is the 3063.

Janice please check this out as when I went to put the 3033 into the Gallery the description says Rim Lip Cup with 3024 Handle .......?

The 3033 shows a definite rim on the edge of the cup, the cups that I have in that shape don't have the rim, so must be the 3063. I have charm, baroque, merlin, lancelot, guinevere and 3 colour-glaze ones.

Interestingly your brown one is different than the charm. silent I am confused!!
I will find my cups this shape this week and get my ruler out!

The 3033 cup shape is in four of the pattern records that I have and there are none that have the 3063.
The 3033 goes with Monaco, Safari, Snowdrop and Calypso. Three of these patterns show that the saucer shape was 805.
I have tried my lot with the 805 saucer and the Charm fits perfectly. The brown cup swims in the saucer well.
So does this mean that the Charm cup is a 3033 ???? I'm still unsure, but it does have more of a rim than the brown cup even though I can barely see it. Portage say that the 3063 has a small foot, but my possible Charm 3033 has a so called foot whereas the brown has none. SO FRUSTRATING!!!

Re: 3033 Rim Lip Cup with 3024 handle

While checking out the records today looking for the Rosemarie pattern I came across the Baroque d664 pattern and it had a photo of the 3033 shape cup. I have one of those and here it is and I will add it to the Gallery. This has the large footring, so I am suggesting that the small footring cup that is similar will be the 3063. What are your thoughts?
