Ev, I'm pleased to see my Paris "MADE IN N.Z." mark in the back stamps gallery but did you realise it is the only mark there that is "in situ" (in the body) as opposed to applied.

I guess there is still work to be done on the impressed "MADE IN NEW ZEALAND", as I am familiar with that topic, so I guess it is a work in progress.

I have a question about "MADE IN NEW ZEALAND" in raised lettering.
It is most often found in the "bottom" position, ie the bottom of the letters is to the outside of the base, but less often it appears at the "top", ie top of letters to the outside.
I can see no obvious reason for this, and when I first saw it I wondered if pieces with it on were even Crown Lynn. I'm over that now as I see it is clearly the same font, but still curious.

Can anyone offer an explanation?

Jeremy many, many, many cups have NEW ZEALAND impressed into the cup base and I don't have any near to see if they are at the top or the bottom, could be either.... but your MADE IN N.Z. is the first I've seen impressed with those words.

Ev, it was the ones with the raised lettering I was wondering about wrt top/bottom, but I'll have a look at where the marks on the impressed ones are too.

Yeah, re the Paris one, I'm so pleased to have spotted that reference to the impressed mark in Val's book. Til then I was still wondering whether it was even Ambrico/Crown Lynn.

I guess there are too few of these around to work out when each different shape etc was made. I'm guessing the one Kat gave to Arna, with all over ridging and oatmeal colour would have to be pretty early. It's pretty cool too.

I have had a look at the cups bases and I have a few with the Lettering at the top of the cup, but its not particular to any similar style of cup... I will investigate further and see if anything follows a pattern. It might be a "new Machine" or something, meaning, that after a certain year the cups have the different base stamp.. dunno, just guessing really.

This could be a starting point to figure out time frames....
Time Out pat no 999 was a winning design, therefore will have a date of manufacture - so to speak, my cup has "NEW ZEALAND" indented in the base. This could be helpful to figure out what dates the new Zealand stamps varied? ( Although it will only indicate a date that it was used... i.e there could be other example that shows it being used prior to that date..) Another little project  Razz
