Hi all.. just a quick note to say Heather and I will be talking about our Crown Lynn collections at the Whangarei Art Museum at 2 pm on Sunday 16 March. This is a fundraiser for the Music Society so there will be a $15 cover charge. Afternoon tea will be provided - on Crown Lynn of course!  Heather and I will talk about the items on display at the exhibition that's on at the moment, and we will also bring along some extras.  AND you are welcome to bring along any items of interest as well.  Ev's already booked her tickets!

Indeed my flights are booked to whizz up to see this show.
I'm hoping to meet some of our Northland enthusiastic Crown Lynn collector members that day, so please do try to get there and make yourself known Smile

Nicole and I will be there. We are Friends of the Art Museum AND Music Society members, so it's win win win!

I have also forwarded the invite to members of the Whangarei Antiques and Collectors Club. Val's two talks at the club were very popular, as was our visit to see the swans at home.

Perhaps we should have a Crown Lynn (or NZ Pottery) convention sometime... really I am only dreaming as keeping in touch through this site is so much less complicated. But it would be so lovely to catch up with everyone properly.  What stories would be told!  What wonders would we behold from others' collections!

It looks like the dreaded cyclone Lusi will have moved down the country by late tomorrow and we will get some much needed rain...... Phew
When a plane disappears without a trace I need all of the encouragement there is to set foot into one ...... not a cyclone warning!

Talking of conventions, my partner thinks we should all meet (where?) with a "show and tell" ie bring a favorite piece of pottery and have a story that goes with it!!!
What a cool day that would be  Razz we could do something like that on here though.. start a thread?

The talks by Val Monk and Heather Thorburn followed by afternoon tea served on Crown Lynn crockery was extremely successful !

This is a link to the Whangarei Art Museum photos of the Exhibition, as the low lighting didn't work well on my phone camera.
https://www.facebook.com/205501869507239/photos/pcb.667717596618995/667716816619073/?type=1&theater

As well as the big display on show, Val and Heather took along a couple of tables filled with other Crown Lynn from their collections YUM YUM YUM!!!  From the wares on the tables they were able to trace the history of the company for the audience.  I took some photos of these to share, thanks to the Museum for adding some lighting ...

Many questions were answered by the girls and they both did such a grand job of sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm.
People brought along pieces of Crown Lynn hoping to find out some information about them and many wanted to know how much their pieces were worth, also several unidentified pieces turned up and these folk were rather disappointed that they were not Crown Lynn. One lady who worked in an Opshop had the loveliest Hand Potted pieces! The most beautiful shape 49 vase that I've ever seen turned up, this looked black in the low light, but turned into the most fabulous blues when in the direct light. Heather is now the proud owner of this wonderful piece Very Happy
It was a pleasure to meet Tom Clark's sister-in-law who had some stories to tell. Jeremy and Nicole were there and it was great to see them again and to get to finally meet Kat at last. I didn't know that Greg Barron and his wife were there until after they had gone .... alas. So many interesting people such as the lady with several Green Gables pieces that she found in a garage sale!
The Museum is talking about extending this exhibition, as it has been very well attended which is great news. More Museum's should do this sort of interacting with the public as it was well worth the effort. In short it was fun, delightful and fantastic!

We were so very happy to have Ev there... Flying up and back in the same day. We picked her brains non-stop - it must have been a relief to get back on that plane Ev!

My favorite story from yesterday: A woman asked me "You know those big white vases with "hand potted" on the base, are they quite valuable?"
Yes, I said, generally in the hundreds rather than the thousands, but they are important pieces.
Well, she said, ours was on the back step holding the clothes pegs for a long time, but we keep it inside now.
EEEK! She said it was a large one, in very good condition despite its dodgy history.

Oh Wow!!!! That is so old it's from Ambrico days!!!! The glaze is so rich and I saw a 49 in those colours yesterday :loveit:

I have an idea that the 43 has 'fern-like' fronds on it ... so I'm not 100% sure if it's that shape or not, though they could be hidden by the luscious glaze. You would be able to feel their presence though.
