Hi, I can't seem to get this to work but I hope it works this time.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get some information for my Aunty on her large crown Lynn black swan. It's stamped crown Lynn on the base, has the number 170 stamped on the base too. It's glaze is in a matt finish and it has a painted face. I've tried to look online for similar but I've not seen one like it to try & compare. She's had it for over 35 years I reckon. I think it might be reasonably valuable & would like to get an idea of value for insurance purposes for her..... So if you can help with this or any other info I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Photos to hopefully come, if I can get the links to work!

I hope this works... Photos can be found at this address, I can't get this site to accept my links.

You can find them at flickr.
Just add /photos/nz_claire/     To the main Flickr web address and they should come up.

swan - Info sought re large black swan Empty Value

Post  jessielara87 Fri 15 Aug - 15:43

If it has been painted like that by crown lynn, it should be in their book? I have never seen black with painted beak etc, it is stunning, I would think around the $2000-$3000 mark you would fetch at the moment on trade me (if the colour wasn't added after purchase originally) - I remember seeing the black swans for sale at antique shops 5 years ago for $200 so they have come up in value ALOT but its not to say that they won't come back down in value - You pay that for a standard large white or cream one now - There are also ALOT of painters these days, yours looks original but there has been a few on trade me that have been well painted & sold for huge amounts.. Hope that helps

swan - Info sought re large black swan Empty Thanks so far...

Post  Aunty Claire Fri 15 Aug - 19:31

Thanks so much for your help so far. I'm pretty sure that my aunty hasn't painted it at all. I just took the photos last weekend & it's as smooth as anything in its finish to handle. I'm pretty sure that the black colour & painted face have been fired in & not added later. No paintbrush marks anywhere. It's very clean. The inside is also black.

I will call my aunty to verify that it's always been black & with the painted face just in case. I can also take better photos the next time I head up north to visit if that helps. Let me know if any particular view or part is important to see.

What part of the country does the swan live?
I see you mentioned 'up north' and that is where our swanologist hails from.

swan - Info sought re large black swan Empty Painted Black Swan

Post  HeatherT Fri 15 Aug - 20:15

I think if it has been in the family 35 years and the finish looks original there is every chance it is original. We know there was a lot of personalised touches to pieces in the factory and it stands to reason if they painted white ones with yellow beaks and black eyes then they would have enhanced black ones too.

I would guess its current market price based on the crazy prices of late as around $3000. Can we have it for the gallery?
