Doris Bird demitasse duos and clear glaze duos

Two demitasse duos with hand-painted vermiculation in gold.
I understand this was Doris Bird.

This one has a 48-55 backstamp.

The one on the right has an Ascot stamp.

The vermiculation is finer on the 48-55 than on the Ascot.

Gold backstamps for saucers above.

You can't really tell from the photos but they are in gold.

Those are breathtaking!
Where did you get them from?
How much were they?
They make me giddy with excitement!
Other potteries in England used this technique too ....

They were at Jill's second hand shop, Decor Revived.
Jill had not yet put out them out for sale when I arrived this morning.
I bought the 48-55 then and there, but it was your excitement that tipped the scales in my decision to return and get the Ascot.

I don't want to say what I paid at this stage as it was not my usual op-shop prices.
Probably a better financial investment though.

I have been putting off buying demis as there is so much to spend money on,
but I think these are probably a good way to add to my late mother's small collection of early Crown Lynn demitasse duos.

I never did get around to posting a picture of my mum's demis so here they are:

1 saucer round backstamp, 3 48-55, 1 cup round backstamp, 3 cups no stamp

Compare plain and fancy, same shape:


The pattern and orientations of handles make them look different but they are the same shape.

I have still not found a shape number for an earthenware demitasse.
All the items here appear to be earthenware.
Three plain saucers and one cup crazed: three plain cups and one saucer clean.
All the Doris Bird is crazed but the patterning disguises it nicely.

These little darlings make my heart go PING and when I saw this sweet little saucer I had to pay the $1 in hopes of finding a cup one day

I couldn't find a measurement for these, this one is 117 mm.  The blue is stunning not that you can see this in the photo and the gold edge is from another romantic era when high teas were in fashion .....





There is a strange crack on the base which is discoloured, but doesn't go through to the top ....?
