Salisbury catalogues etc

Recently someone from Royal Oak/Salisbury gave me some old photos of their ware.  These are scans of photocopies so not as clear as I would like, but I hope they are still useful.
This is a display of the early ware. I have left the photos quite big so hopefully they can be enlarged.

Above two photos are from c1949 as oakpot said that is when the fish and seaweed pot was made

At one stage Salisbury made a whole lot of that 'wireware' furniture, shelves etc, with pots often included.



This is a very bad image but I have included it to give an idea of the range of ware on the market. They made shelves, telephone tables etc. The bottom image on this scan is really bad, don't even try to interpret it!


And last, here is a price list. Undated sadly but pre-decimal which makes it before July 1967.

Oh my giddy aunt this is so unexpected and I'm over the moon. I can see so many Crown Lynn shapes and also those shapes that come up often, but we don't have a maker for them. What fun it will be to go through these and work out what is what.

I've been going through these catalogues and finding photos that match.  I've found 11 from the first photo and 12 shapes from the 2nd pic.  Not sure what to do with them yet, but what stands out to me are the Royal Oak stickers on many of these pieces.  What we commonly call Salisbury Ware are the old 3 digit vases that have been spray painted by Salisbury and these sometimes have the Salisbury sticker which is from 1942 to 1946 according to Gail Lambert.  Now I have to look closely at the Royal Oak stickers to try and identify a time frame.

I had a few wire frame things that were given to me in 1966 .... a planter box and a shadow box and these were all the rage then

Lastly that Kiwi in the last photo looks like the Crown Lynn Kiwi spill vase 156 or 165 doesn't it?

I have got the 396 fan vase from the catalogue picture with a Royal Oak sticker and the little vase (Nr.16 in the first picture) which I always thought was NZ made but couldn't find the shape for in the galleries.

I'll get hubby to take pictures some time next week.

I have been going through my collection and found some of the shapes and some possible ones too.

Great show haselnuss and fun to find the shapes and more fun for me to add them to the catalogue montage. Keep it up!

Titian I would say made some of them ....... but which ones?

Hello Eve, I have read in Gail Lambert/Henry's book that Titian made blanks for someone who used them in metal frames.



This white round one is about the same size as the other round and oblong hanging ones.

The bisque kiwi spill vase (14cm high & 14cm long, 8cm wide) that I posted above is much taller than the fraction marked trickle glaze kiwi spill vase (10.5cm high & 12cm long, 7cm wide) which is either the 156 or 165. Does anyone know which has what number?

There was a big discussion about the 156 and 165 at one time, but I can't remember the details. I will try to find it when I get a chance.

All my glazed kiwi vases are numbered 165, and all the Salisbury vases (usually not numbered) with the painted finish and a larger size, I had noted to be the 156. Hope that makes sense.

These photos have been generously sent to me - they show SOME of the collection of the people who showed me the catalogues. Wonderful to see!
Over the next few days I will put together and post a potted history of the Salisbury/Royal Oak business based on the information I have recently been given. For now, I've run out of time again sorry.


Note below I was advised that the kingfisher does not belong in the bowl - ie it is not fixed there.

In the pic below, I love the variations on the planters made and decorated by Daniel Steenstra. I have never seen one with the square-style decoration.

This is a mix of Salisbury and everyday Royal Oak.

So many of the early Crown Lynn shapes are there and I just found a shape 17 painted just like the one in the photo
The sailing ship looks very Titian-ish and I don't think I've seen one.  Also the baskets ..... where are they?  I've never come across one anywhere ..... yet.
How marvellous to see the Mother coffee mugs with the little flower decoration.  I found one for myself as I really like the unusual shape and pattern.
The kingfisher has it's own number, as does that bowl it is sitting in.
How interesting to see so much of Daniel Steenstra's work !
When I get a chance I will ponder over those shapes to see if there are any there that we are missing .....

The bigger of the square painted Steenstra pots could be the 8inch one if the other are the 6inch pots.

The Salisbury galleon looks similar to the Beswick galleon on Trade Me.

I recognised this piece as being Salisbury Ware, but don't know who would have made it for them as the clay is very yellow .... any ideas?  
There are odd letters in pencil on the base ...?
Edits to add that oakpot has identified this as a Sherwood blank.

The two bowls in the front of the photo with the plant pots may be shape 7015 -
8" Rimmed Bowl Coloured I feel. I have a feeling that we have some shapes with that stamp on, but not sure if we have the bowl shape.

This looks like Salisbury & its in first catalogue pic bottom row, second from right its a bit different to the CL shape 434 horseshoe trough pic.
It is painted creamy yellow.

There are so many pieces to put into the Salisbury Gallery!
Even though some have the Royal Oak sticker, I will keep the kitchenware in the Royal Oak Gallery and the vases and artware in the Salisbury/Royal Oak Artware Gallery.
Their output was so immense and we still have to work out which pieces were made by Titian, Spartan and Rancich, as it appears to be easy to work out what Ambrico/Crown Lynn made.
I will happily work on this when I get a chance, hopefully on Sunday.
It feels like we are on the brink of another huge breakthrough .........
