Not sure which category to put this in, as was not produced at his own pottery at Brunner. Could be argued that he was an independent studio potter at this time, who also worked at commercial potteries.

A quick overview of William Speer. William worked at Royal Doulton England. He emigrated to NZ in 1921 to be near his daughter in Greymouth. He worked for a short time at the Gardner Bros pottery in New Lynn from 1925 and Briar Gardner came in contact with him. He moved to Brunner and worked with clay until 1932. This agate ware is his specialty.
