These are from the mid 1980's going by the photos around this one.  I've come across the pattern name Tropic before and it has the pattern no d128 on the Data Base.  I will have to check it out from the Auckland Museum archives as that is where I saw it referred to before.  This photo is from the Portage Museum Archives and shows the six different colours for Tropic.

Hugs Janice as I missed you and felt rather alone on some of these things!
The colour names are not quite the same, but seem to match anyway. The cup shape is similar to others we have, crikey we have spent a lot of time on the 3038 haven't we, but the saucer is the rim shape, which your pic shows with the shape number, so it does seem to fit then.
As they appear to be colour glaze I think it's one and the same and from the same time frame.

Ev, Jan, I have seen both shapes (handles) of 3038 on both shapes of saucer, 4029, 4042, on patterns that look like they should match so it looks to me as though there was no simple replacement of one handle with the other.

Beyond that, as much as I'd like to help out I can't.

One day maybe you two can put together all the records you have found about 3038 handle-shape/saucer combinations and something might gel.

Supposing the 4042 saucer replaced the 4029 for 3038s, the 4029 would have had a 5 year run, if it was released in 1970-71 (which it looks like it should be from the surrounding saucers in the gallery) rather than 1975.
