Bob Steiner handpotted mug

85mm H x 85 OD top, mark as shown

Kat kindly pointed out to me that this is the Steiner mark in the gallery.
I think the one in the gallery could be upside down. This is how it appears beneath the handle. I read the mark as a schooner in the water with the cloud behind possibly loosely doubling as "BS".

I'm so glad Kat is able to help me with these marks.

Next day ...
Please note: Lest it confuse anyone, I see that Anne has now flipped the gallery image so it is the same orientation as this one.

I gotta say this is not one of my favourite mugs. I bought it for the mark rather than its appearance. Nevertheless, I'm pleased to have yet another handmade piece from someone better known for their castware.

I have Kat's similar mug now and I believe that the potter's mark is not a ship but an erupting volcano in the sea, indicating the four elements earth, air, fire, water.
I'm pretty sure I got this idea from reading comments by or about Steiner.
I'll add comparatives one day.
The similarity of mugs yet difference in stamps could simply mark the replacement of one hand-cut seal with another.

It is good for the record to see where these successful commercial potters started.
Kat is doing a tremendous job with the Studio Potters Marks and has gone ahead in leaps and bounds since getting the Potters Marks book. Bravo Kat cheers

four Bob Steiner handpotted beakers/sips/goblets
Bob Steiner handpotted: Teapot Steine10

I was quite taken with these handpotted goblets from Bob Steiner.
What do you call these: they have hollow stems (open to the bowl).
Not so big at only about 9-10cm high.

These all have big bold marks on their bases.

I really like the idea of wine out of clay but have yet to convince Nicole.

$2 a pop, Kerikeri Hospice shop

Bob Steiner handpotted teapot.

Sadly this lovely Steiner teapot at Whangarei Hospice shop has a horribly chipped spout which I have cleverly concealed. (Pity about the background.)
