Art Deco Napier New Zealand mug.
"Handpainted by Pen"
I would need to compare with other commercial mug shapes to try and see who made this but have yet to do so. It is in perfect condition and appears to be new.

Pen is a very skilled ceramic artist.
I will add her to the Mystery Marks in the hopes that someone knows who she is.

I finally got around to making a physical comparison of this mug shape with those of NZ commercial potteries and as I suspected it is a Studio Ceramics shape.
I have yet to take a comparative photo (iPad full!) so you'll have to take my word that it is identical to the green mug in the following photo.
I know that Studio Ceramics let people decorate for themselves, but if this mug was produced in numbers then "Pen" may be (have been) someone on staff there.

"Pen" is Penny Madden from Taradale ...
... but I have no explanation for Penny decorating a Studio Ceramics mug.
This site has plenty of similar Art Deco ladies:

Penny Madden website:

Penny Madden on the forum:

I see we already have "Handpainted by Pen" [correction: "Handcrafted"] as her mark in the gallery:
