That was my thoughts on seeing it on the shelf too Kat.
Glad you picked it up.

Steve Fullmer continued to work in the same manner immediately after departing Beach, and the Steenstra/Beach shapes are still evident today in some of his work.

I have a photo I took of pieces of orange Beach that Steve collected in recent times along with one of his own old pots in browns. Doesn't look like this though.

Nicole's on computer so will post later.

Nice. Kat remember the pot you told me about in the little op Shop? Yours is very similar in shape and glaze, but mine is without the wiggly lines.

It certainly looks very Steensta-like to my eyes. Even the finish on the unturned base looks like his. Not sure if I've seen wiggly lines on his work before, but I may have. It's a satisfactory way to finish a pot Smile

I love that teapot.

Here's Steve Fullmer's orange Beach, op-shop buys, along with a wee brown Fullmer pot, as promised.

Beach pottery and Fullmer bowl, Steve Fullmer collection, Mapua

I included this to show how the Steenstra influence persisted in his colleagues' work.
Actually from what Steve told me about Steenstra not leaving finger marks on the outside we can probably assume that the three orange pieces here are not Steenstra. (The orange sugar bowl mat be smooth, but incised this is all the detail I have.)

Jeremy did Steve tell you who made these? I.e. Was it Steve or colleagues.

You know what? Steve didn't know!

I shouldn't be relying on my memory: here's some notes I write up after seeing Steve:

Steve has collected a few pieces of Beach Artware from opshops. They are shown with one of his own pieces from soon after his time with Beach. Steve cannot say who made each of these pieces. A few comments (I'm not sure how much of this Val has already posted from her telephone interviews):
*Dan Steenstra didn't leave finger marks on the outside of his pots, so the tall pot will not be his.
*Dan made everyone use the pin tool to avoid the cracking on the likes of this salt pot, so the spiral mark in itself is not an indication of Steenstra's work, however the incised marking seen on the small salt may be.
I think Val has already told us that the matt orange is uranium and the shiny is (white) lead.

Thanks Jeremy. I have been told by Steve Fullmer and others that everyone tried to emulate Dan Steenstra so it's no wonder Steve didn't know who made what. When Ev and I saw Sharon and Eva Beach (Peter Beach's daughter and wife) they too were often uncertain as two who made a particular piece. Though they were pretty clear that the quality pieces were Dan's.
