I'm starting a topic for your fern leaf pattern Jeremy, as I can only find it buried deeply in other topics.

Jeremy's fern leaf pattern Teal_t10

I was shown a photo of this pattern of a butter dish and it was on display at the Auckland Museum in the Air New Zealand 75th Exhibition.

It was called the TEAL pattern. I've asked them to send me the photo so that I can read the blurb that was with it. Josling was mentioned.

I'm a bit dubious as there was an Air NZ ashtray on display too and they said it was made by Temuka. This one ..

I failed to find these pieces online, but did see the Santa toby which they said was made at Temuka ....... affraid

The Air NZ 75 years exhibition is only on until the 22nd May.

Ev,
I can't add any bigger pictures atm until Nicole returns with the iPad.

This is definitely a variation on the Ottway Josling Reflections pattern but beyond that I have nothing.

I think a saucer or two sold recently on tm.

Looking forward to seeing the pattern on a different shape. Maybe it has marks!

Teal or Air New Zealand sounds a bit of a stretch to me. I think we have Reflections ON Teal and Reflections FOR Teal sewn up now, just waiting for good examples of the latter. And maybe a saucer with a white centre.

The butter dish only had two leaves on it. One each side of the dish.
I want to go to the Museum to check it out for myself as the promised photo hasn't arrived yet. Hopefully next week.

Jeremy's fern leaf pattern Empty Reflections for TEAL

Post  Jeremy Ashford Sat 7 May - 9:03

Ev,
Looking at the pics I'm thinking that it is Reflections FOR TEAL, thus the salt and pepper appear to be the Air New Zealand shape. I like that one is black and one white. It is curious that the pudding bowl has the fern leaves separate rather than crossed like other Reflections. I would expect these pieces, the plate at least, to have TEAL backstamp/s.
I think the name is misspelled Otway where it should be Ottway.

My saucers are not Reflections for TEAL. When I locate them I will check the backstamp but it will surely be one or other version of the Cook & Serve stamp with no dating, so would need to be compare with others with a pattern of known date to date it.

We know that they made Teal Airways crockery and it will be vitrified.   I think this is it.

There is an article that I must check out in one of the old Ceramics magazines which mention the TEAL Airways pattern.

Otway is the correct spelling according to the Crown Lynn records Jeremy.

Yes this is definitely the Teal Airways pattern. There was an article about it in the Ceramics magazine July 1964. It showed this butter dish and the salt and pepper, also the Air NZ cups and saucers and bowls and plates. The cups and bowls and plates had the 4 crossing fern leaves.

I'm not sure of the pattern number for this as there are a couple of possibilities. However I will add the butter dish to the Gallery as Teal Airways.

Jeremy, you mentioned above that we had the Teal Airways sewn up, but as there isn't anything in the Gallery for this, could you point me to where it was discussed. I have small bells ringing, but need your help thanks.

I'll get back with links later.

What I meant was that we had distinguished Reflections on Teal (earthenware) from Reflections for TEAL (vitrified), but the pictures I have are snatched from trademe so we cannot use them. I think we need a TEAL backstamp.

You posted a link to the Reflections drawings from Auckland Museum, which are the vit shapes for TEAL.

There are bits and pieces through the following topic including the Auckland Museum link.

I just clicked: the photo you posted is a pin-dish/butter-pat. I see it in the drawing.

I found that Te Papa curated this exhibition and got hold of a contact.
Let them know about the 1185 Ashtray incorrect information and they were extremely grateful because when the exhibition finishes in Auckland it will be going to Christchurch and they can display the correct information.
