Porcelain so thin that the light shines through!
Beautifully painted and you can almost hear the wee bird singing away happily while sitting on a post looking out over the water .....

The base was a big surprise and had a message to tell me I had found the right piece!
"Here she is." Well that is my take on it hehee.  I've never seen this finish on pottery before and thought it was brilliant.

Aaron Scythe Empty an Aaron Scythe mug for Father's Day

Aaron Scythe earthenware mug

I found Aaron Scythe's latest series of mugs with black glaze and a metallic ring to them a bit scary at first sight but I may yet grow to like them. I have been looking at these earthenware mugs on the net for a while now, at both Masterworks website and treeobjectspace.co.nz in Whanganui and I understand Aaron won't be making any more in the same clay. Not wanting to miss out as I have done with the Ande Barrett-Hegan face mugs (which were available for a couple or few years [!]) I did stretch to buying one of the Scythe pieces with little legs from Masterworks. I took the photos a long time ago but have kept the mug wrapped up for a special day. Today is the one.

Brilliant Jeremy.  Aaron is so creative and things change at a rate of knots, so to catch something like this is like catching a moment of time in his potting life.

I bought a yunomi from Aaron's latest show at Avid in Wellington. He's used different clay bodies joined together.   At the moment it's the hardest working beaker I have.
