Yellow checked jug with the marking on the bottom of the jug. Note the shape of the jug and the large pourer. Quite unusual shape.

Brilliant Harry!!! Really stunning!
That gorgeous jug comes in 4 different sizes -
you can find them in the 700's Crown Lynn Catalogue Gallery.
It's great that you have shown the backstamp on the jug.
Gail Henry and Valerie Monk's books both say that stamp was from c.1955.
Gail mentions that the Trademark was applied for 31 May 1955.
Do any of the other pieces have backstamps?

That collection is amazing!

I am going to say it is not what we originally thought and maybe it is older than we think.. it is totally different to the other check patterns we know...lovely colours too - the jug is gorgeous and the compost heap cup...well!! Very Happy

Markings on Plates and other items

Post  harry on Thu 14 Jan - 19:16

Only two out of all the large plates have the NUMBER 2 on them. All the rest of the collection have the same Crown Lynn mark. Still really interested in finding out the age. Spoke to my oldest sister who remembers our Aunt getting the dinnerware for a batch our Aunt and Grandmother had purchased. She remembers this pattern well and thinks it was in the late 30's early 40's but no later than 1947 as that is when my Aunt died suddenly. !!!! More study to do. :whistles:

Harry, there are two books that I can highly recommend regarding Crown Lynn's history.
You should be able to find them at most libraries.

New Zealand Pottery - Commercial and Collectable by Gail Henry

Crown Lynn - A New Zealand Icon by Valerie Ringer Monk.

I hope that they will help you with your research.
