I have discussed elsewhere that the two glazes from Luke Adams, Lucow and Basalt, were never reproduced accurately on CL's Auckland pottery.

This may have had something to do with the single firing process at the Titian factory where the castware was made.

We know that the Auckland approximation of Lucow is Aquamarine, but we have no pattern name or number for a Basalt equivalent.

When I saw this salt pig today (yesterday now) at SPCA my first thought was Basalt, and my second was Luke Adams did not make this shape!

I've checked the Adams list and it is definitely not there.
(I haven't checked which number this is but there are no salt pigs on the list.)

So, I'm assuming this is an example of the Auckland Basalt equivalent.
Unless it really is Basalt!

Crikey it looks like Basalt to me from here .....

The Salt Pig is a Shape 1165 and I checked the records where they show where made and it shows Titian.  However there is Luke Adams and Titian all around this shape.

Peter Beach who was a Glaze Technician/Chemist at Crown Lynn in New Lynn, developed the Basalt and Lucow glazes and his daughter showed us his pride and joy of two bottles glazed in these ...

It makes sense that these were trialed at New Lynn if that was where they were developed.
So it makes me think that other shapes were trialed at New Lynn too like the Elf Eared Mug.

Food for thought for sure, thanks Jeremy and I've updated the Made at Luke Adams list and crossed off a few more shapes.
