Royal Milton Potteries New Zealand 1873 - 1917 DVD

What a magical masterpiece this DVD is as I was close to tears from the sheer beauty of the pottery that was made by Milton.  I recommend this DVD to anyone interested in New Zealand Pottery !!

At 42mins long with an introduction that covered early Colonial New Zealand history, there were many important mentions, for example that 3 different clays were used:
Pure White, Buff and Dark Yellow.

Industrial, Commercial and Domestic Wares were made and covered just about everything imaginable, including elaborately decorated toilets.  A Majolica Tin Glaze was used on the decorative ware and salt glaze on the Commercial Ware.

There were 11 different owners over 40 years, so I guess that is why there is a variety of styles.  

Workers from Milton moved around the country and went to McSkimmings 'Benhar'. P. Hutson Wellington, Luke Adams Christchurch, Cam Brown Titian Studios Takanini, Temuka Potteries R.O. Clark and Crown Lynn Potteries and their influence can be seen at these places.

Production ceased in 1915 and the pottery was dismantled in 1917.

The amount of pottery that is in the DVD is staggering and the standard of ware is breathtaking!
