Temuka Ware Speedee Kettle
Thanks to Gary for letting me photo the kettle. He has a significant Temuka collection including other wonderful NZ pottery.
Marked Temuka Ware Speedee on the base in handwritten script, which was used in the Arthur Toplis era, 1930's.
To be clear Speedee is a NZ company run by H. C. Urlwin Ltd and different/separate from the Australian Speedie. Who knows which one came first. Speedee operated in Christchurch and had a branch in Wellington.
The writing on the base looks like it says Sheedee but most likely it is a p and it is just the style of text.
Speedee kettles are usually enamel and metal going by vintage advertising...this ceramic one could be a precursor. I hope we find more info over time.

The blue kettle is in the Waitaki Museum collection in Oamaru. Photo taken during an exhibition.
