Titian Trout F.107 Empty Big UP'S to Ross from Doll-Finz!!!

Post  Marcus Thu 6 Jan - 7:16

I think Ross from the Dynamic Duo of Doll-finz deserves some credit here, he gave me alot of much needed help with my camera, and it's his backdrop and lighting that helped create these images.
Thanks Terry and Ross for letting me take some images of your WICKED!!!! collection.

I just found a Titian studio trout with circular swirling water vase. M.4 by the looks , will have to photograph tomorrow. It's quite damaged unfortunately.

Wow you don't see these very often!!!!  Gail Henry has a photo of one of these vases in her book and she says that it has F.105 on the base.
Fantastic Cat and I will be pleased to add it to the Titian Gallery cheers

Edits to add that the seagull is F.105 so further research is required.  I will check out the Titian Pottery blog.
No luck, so I've added it to the Gallery as Titian Leaping Trout.

Cat would it be possible to add a photo of the base and hopefully someone can work out the number. They don't seem to have used the letter M, but you never know as they may have for some reason!

I couldn't find a photo of one on google, so I figured they might be a bit unusual! I'll definitely get a photo of the base as I'm sure it looks nothing like F109, though now I know what it's supposed to be I might be able to make it out, it wasn't particularly clear. - Has Titian Studio in raised print with painters palette/brushes logo also raised. Maybe I should suggest it goes on our shop's charity trade me account, even with the damage, as it seems there might be some interest in it.

I think it's one of those 'really an ornament with something they can call a handle on it to suggest utility ware' type of things like I think the moon/palm tree one is.

What is the damage Cat?
I see a small chip off the top wave and maybe another on the end of the trout.
Yes I agree with you that Trade Me would be the best place for it.

could be a tiny decorative spout there Kat, but I'm not at work to look at it at the moment.
Ev, damage is chips to tips of fins at least 3 or 4, no cracks though, and I think you might be right about the chip off a bit of the 'spout' at the top.

I see there was one at Jim Drummond's auction at Art & Object in 2009. It has repairs to the fins and sold for $350. The description says that the fish is an incipient handle to allow classification as utility ware therefore attracting reduced sales tax. They call it a jug/vase formed by a circular river eddy.

That's interesting to know! A pity the original owners didn't bother gluing the chipped bits, I suppose that nothing can really be done without the missing bits

Professional restorers like Wrightways would be able to fix it, but it would be costly. I've only ever seen these two.

I took a whole lot of photos today, but I've gone and left my camera at work, so will pick it up tomorrow when I'm down that end of town, but I can report that as far as I can tell, it's definitely M4 on the base, there is definitely a 'spout' though it would be an awkward and heavy jug if you were somehow possessed with the idea to use it as such. There is a chip to the spout which does have an associated (hairline) crack, which I hadn't noticed before, as well as assorted chips to fins and one at the base edge. I gave it a gentle soak and wash and it came up quite nicely though.

Yes I agree that it is marked M4 Cat and according to Gail Henry the artist palette mark was used from 1958 to 1965, which I've added to the Gallery. Such a shame that it has had a hard life, but fantastic to see it on the site.
