Superb Wharetana Ware Trial Piece
From Brian Ronson's collection in the Crown Lynn: Pottery for the People Exhibition at the Gus Fisher Gallery Auckland.
Brian told Heather and I how he got this piece from a person who worked at Crown Lynn. They saw it and took a liking to it and asked if they could have it, as it was only a trial piece and never went into production. It is pure magic, even the colour is gorgeous!

The Catalogue for the Crown Lynn Exhibition in Wellington mention that this plate is a portion of the famous Goldie and Louis Steel painting 'The arrival of the Maori in New Zealand' from 1898.
