According to the Summer 1977 Crown Lynn Ceramics magazine, Pioneer was first released in late 1976. The fact that it was still being made in the 1988 catalogue above shows how popular it must have been.

Ev, do you still have the Old Pioneer Advert above.. are the shapes in the Galleries? I was trying to work out the casserole numbers but cannot quite read them.
I have this little Pioneer dish that makes me wonder if its 4032? only because its the only shape description I can find that fits the length.. cat

The dish on the left is dated 1974 so it must be earlier than Pioneers 1976 release.

Hi Kat, yes I do have that catalogue, though unfortunately the casserole number is an odd one because it includes the lid ..... 0927/1 which doesn't help us.
The casserole will have four digits and it won't start with zero!
I only found this out the hard way as the 1360 Classique sugar with lid 1361 is listed in this catalogue as 0910/1.
So there is another casserole or three waiting to be found in those four digit numbers!

Don't think we have that pattern from 1974 do we and we may be able to work out it's name one day. Crikey I'm not sure about that shape, perhaps Jeremy could take a look at it as I'm too pooped atm.

I'm a bit pooped too Ev.
I've had a quick look around but I've run out of steam.

Here's what I have so far, Kat.

I don't think a 5000 because apart from the odd few at the start they are from about 1976 on. If you are looking for 1974 then I think the 5000s may be too late.

I had a quick look at the 1600s but nothing shouted at me there.

I had a look at 4032, described as a "coupe", which to my understanding (and I could be wrong) means basically a pudding bowl shape not an oval, oblong, or rounded rectangle.

Other 4000 descriptions send me back to the 700s, at which point my eyes say enough!

I haven't even glanced at the 8000s. Don't know much about them.

About casseroles: I think there is still a whole series of casserole shapes unaccounted for in the 1600s, between the Chateau Range and the Iconic series.

And there are also a whole lot of early 1960s era casseroles and bakers (eg my Blue Tango casserole with strap handles) which will precede the four digits that have yet to find a place in the 7 and 800s.

Another time.

Kat, are they the same shape and size as these Air NZ dishes?

Yes & no those dishes are clearly Noritaki check out Japan on the backstamp!
I have one of these Inflight dishes too..its not that different..smoother mostly.
My little pioneer dish is 14 x 10.5. was thinking 4000's as the plates above are in this range.
The casseroles in Advert above are confusing with odd numbers! I glad Im not the only one with issues with it! Very Happy

I think my Air NZ little dish like your Pioneer one is Crown Lynn, in fact I know for sure as it's in the gallery with it's letters and numbers.
I plan to use some of my holiday to get to the bottom of these casserole numbers and will try to do it logically but with abandon  Twisted Evil

Is this cup from the pioneer range? It looks like a carlton cup

it is merely stamped New Zealand

It was sitting on a saucer that is a lighter shade, along side a 6610 jug at the Sallies. Couldn't decide if I should get it or not.

coffee - Pioneer Crown Lynn Tableware Empty 5040 for gallery or just a 4040?

It just occurred to me that the large bowl could be a 5040 (on or after 5.4.82), which we don't have in the gallery yet, rather than a 4040. Any thoughts?

(I photographed one of mine for this but then saw Ev's one here already.)

Hmmm the Forma 4040 has a flat bottom and a flared body, which is a different shape to this bowl.  I will have to try and find some Pioneer records to answer this question and I have Annual Accounts to attend to today and shouldn't be here heh.

4040 Bowl is at the bottom of the page.  Please tell me if your bowl is the same shape or not.  I've just realised that these came in two sizes for the Forma bowl and will have to measure my lot now to see which ones I have !  4040 @ 231cm or 4036 @ 171cm..

Yes yours is the Forma shape .... see diagram above.
What size is your one Jeremy?
Derek's one has a rounded inside/outside, not Flared like yours.

232mm OD at top x 62 H

That's near enough 231 and the difference could be in the measuring tape.
