Re: Old Vase with handmade rose & leaves, is this Milton Pottery?
Hi Kat
I can't say for sure, but there is a "chance" this may be Milton. The green-brown majolica looks pretty close to some I've seen before. The doubt I have is the absence of any blue which would be a bit more typical. I'm no expert on this early stuff though.

2 roses vase
12cmh Yippee another old $2 vase...its handpotted & has clear shiny glaze with some fine crazing. The leaves arnt quite as nice.. the 2 roses are very delicate & fine with usual chips ...the stilt marks make me think 'hobby ceramics' & no footrim..like this old tall unidentified vase..Hhmm

Exquisite and I would say not hobby ceramics. The old pottery was fired on stilts.
We need someone that knows about old Nz pottery to come along.

Soo..
Im thinking he body of these two vases are similar in shape & thickness, also the clays look the same, creamy white & smooth, obviously different glaze colour.
but same mostly the way the foot rim is cut in and has no outside rim edge.
The flowers probably applied by different decorators.
Just thinking out loud don"t quote me

Brian Ronson is still waiting to see one of these vases stamped Milton as he has been involved with NZ Pottery a long time and has never come across any.
He believes that these were made elsewhere.
