I checked out The Butterfly House Collection book by Christine Fernyhough yesterday at the library and it's a celebration of Kiwiana. It was published last year.
Then I came to the blanket statement that Olive Jones worked at Crown Lynn from 1948 - 1955 and designed a series of vases for Crown Lynn................
There is a photo of 3 brick clay vases attributed to Olive Jones !
Olive Jones is one of New Zealand’s Pioneer Studio Potters and learnt her craft in London in the early 1930’s. Her pottery studio was set up at the family home in Onehunga. Her work is well known throughout NZ She signs her full name on the base of her pots.
As a potter I can say without question that these vases were not made by Olive Jones and I wonder where Fernyhough got her information from?
I'm glad that I checked this book out at the library and didn't pay around $50 for it.
