It's taken a while to work out who made this lovely wall hanging.
The clay and the flat base are a match for Spartan Cool

Spartan Sailing Ship Empty Spartan Sailing Ship?

Post  Truffles Tue 21 Mar - 17:19

With all the new info on Spartan (yay Ev!) I had to re-examine this wall hanging ship. I have had it for quite a few years and not been able to figure out the maker. Matt paint with airbrushing effect in parts. Small visible spot of clay are off white. Do you think it may be Spartan as well?

I didn't have any luck with Google Lens, but that can be rather hit or miss.
This is beautifully made, but I don't think that the clay and style are that of Spartan/Stevens. The clay isn't 'warm' enough.

Spartan Sailing Ship Empty Re: Spartan Sailing Ship

Post  Truffles Wed 22 Mar - 8:12

Thanks Ev, appreciate your help. One of the things that I had originally noted was how the base was painted in a quite thick layer of paint, with even some brush strokes showing. I was reminded of the base of the wire handled basket I have (since revealed as Spartan, yay). Paint job is very intact so just the odd spot of clay showing. Hopefully the maker will come to light at some stage. Very Happy

As you have pointed out that the base is heavily painted then I could be totally wrong as to the maker Smile
New information is coming through everyday, so keep an eye on here to see what turns up.
