Crown Lynn Export Drive Ashtray 1961 and 100 Million Pieces Ashtray 1959

This ash tray has on the back "A memento from Crown Lynn Potteries to commemorate the inauguration of their export drive 1961"

Oh my goodness...... I saw this on ebay recently and thought 'why would Crown Lynn put gold lustre on an ashtray?' And now here is that piece that commemorates a special time in their history

Fi thinks that this is hand thrown, what are your thoughts Tony?

I don't know Ev. I gave the one I had to a friend who included it in the CL show at Gus Fisher. I don't recall anything about it that suggested it was thrown but I wasn't looking that closely. It was the backstamp that appealed to me.

These ashtrays are the Shape 860 which was slipcast.
The backstamp would have been done on the decal making machine.
