This early Benhar ramekin/small covered dish has the distinctive unglazed lower section of terracotta. The handles have a form similar to the Crofters Ware.
I think I can see a similarity to Teal as well. My imagination perhaps but not completely unlikely?

I saw quite a bit of Benhar/McSkimmings this week and the clay looks like rocks or stones if you know what I mean, so I now have to question whether or not this is Benhar Mike. Can you link me to something similar to this please. I have added it to the Gallery, but now wonder if I should take it down, or move it somewhere else ..... ?

i know what you mean Ev. How early was the Benhar you looked at. Is the clay with rocky look terracotta? The small ramekin has the same terracotta clay as the Benhar cooking pot that appears in the 1926 Benhar catalogue featured in Gail Henry's book. The clays are the same, the unglazed terracotta at the base is the same and although hard to see the knob on the lid is identical in shape. If you dont think so though or not enough evidence just remove it as we need to be accurate.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Thanks for your reply Mike. I hadn't seen that big cooking pot so couldn't compare them. Now I will have to add the cooking pot to the gallery too Smile

That pot is already in the gallery Ev. I called it a lidded container back then (it was one of the first items I had in a gallery) but it is a cooking pot. New photo is better tho.
