Re: moonflower d353
Hahaaaa here we go again!
This is the same pattern as Sorrento d093 !!!!
What is the brand name narna?
When Crown Lynn supplied different companies they used brand names just for that company.
Perhaps with a different brand name eg Kelston Ceramics there was a different pattern name?
Just a thought, but we may be able to work this out one day

Had to stop and take the time to look up which companies got which brand names as this may help with future puzzles - Thank you Val Monk!
McKenzies, Woolworths and Farmers were given the Kelston Ware and Roydon brand names.
Franchise shops, Milne & Choyce and DIC [anyone know what that stands for?] got the Crown Lynn brand.
I have Sorrento with the Crown Lynn Forma backstamp ... also a plate with just a green crown.
Jonno's Majorca has the Crown Lynn Backstamp ....?
Just waiting to see what the backstamp is on Moonflower ..

re Moonflower d353
DIC stands ( stood) for The Direct Importing Company. was a very large department store, HO Dunedin and branches as far north as Hamilton as I recall. & Fleurette was made at the suggestion of Jack Brereton who was the chief buyer of DIC and was first called Brereton Ware, I sent a backstamp some time ago.
As far as Moonflower is concerned how curious that the same pattern should pop up again after I posted mine , do I see a Yellow background in this instance ? .
In a completely different field of marketing I had three different brands all made in the same factory marketed under my control but sold by three different sales teams plus house brands for 4 different big retailers, so this is what Crown Lynn did also.
I have some Earthstone examples backstamped with the pattern name but also have several look-a-likes stamped Earthstone but no pattern name, possibly made for a particular chain because of the popularity of the range but midified so not to conflict with the major retailers such as DIC for example. Scored anothe C&S yesterday.

Re: moonflower d353
Perhaps Moonflower is a non Forma shaped version of Sorrento. I have only ever seen Sorrento on Forma and the pic of Moonflower doesn't look like it Forma, neither does the one I have in my file.Just a thought! cheers, marl

Thanks Jonno for all of that info
As the Database already had Moonflower on it .... there must be more around.
Just waiting for mrnarna to let us know if this is in the Forma shape?
Also what brand name is on the backstamp?
A photo of the backstamp would be great please

Alan Topham was a buyer for Mckenzies before he joined Crown Lynn. He told me he advised on the design Fiesta for McKenzies with input from the owners Roy and Don McKenzie which is why the brand is Roydon.

Re: moonflower d353
It's great to know how the brand name Roydon came about Tony .....
The Crown Lynn name is easy and well known.....
Kelston Ceramics ... well Kelston is just up the road from New Lynn.
Avondale Selection ... Avondale is close to New Lynn too.
But there are many other mystery brand names ...?

Just looking for something in my Museum notes when Heather and I went through the Crown Lynn Adverts folder - there were just ads with the patterns and the names and found :
Moonflower - and I had jotted down the year ....1979
