Does anyone know who made these? Looks like 'C1' stamped underneath and seems to have red wax on the cork lid...

Google only turned up two Trade Me auctions for the same jar....2009 and 2010
Both reached reserve whatever that was Wink
Perhaps Abbeville is the name of the producer of what was contained in the jar?
Just a thought ...?

Hi everyone. I recognise this pot as being the same as one I have, but minus the embossed mark on the side. It originally had a sticker from Royal Oak Pottery but I stupidly washed the pot and the sticker disintegrated. The pot smelt quite strongly of honey. I vaguely remember the remnants of another sticker saying where the honey was produced too... Embarassed

Thanks Thelma. Good to know...

Found this wee container as I was packing another box. I'm guessing it was made by the same place.

This auction looks like two of your little jars .... anything with New Zealand on it is sold as Crown Lynn Rolling Eyes
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=452550529

Do your jars have a smell that you can identify?
I smelt a jar the other day and it stunk of pickled onions .... just saying Wink

The small Titian jars I have smell of cinnamon. I have some Temuka ones that smell of coffee and tea bags. Nothing out of the ordinary...

Yes, the second picture with the two jars shows the smaller one is indeed identical to my one. It had clear wax on the cork. (imagining everyone sniffing their small jars now Laughing )

Had an Annual Leave day today, so decided to make the most of it and do an Opshop Tiki Tour Wink
Anyway I saw two of your jars in one shop DaSiEm and in another there was a bottle with the same A emblem that caught my eye ....
Abbeville Sauce Co Ltd New Zealand were the words around the A.
I googled that name and only got a P.O.Box in Newmarket ...... no phone number -
perhaps they don't exisit anymore?

Beverly Brown identified this fine speckled glaze as made by Orzel. She said her Father-in-law Cameron Brown got the ironsand for the glaze from one of the Auckland West Coast beaches.

ABBEVILLE NEW ZEALAND Empty Re: ABBEVILLE NEW ZEALAND

Post  Jeremy Ashford Sun 29 Dec - 10:09

I just picked up an Abbeville jar this morning "C1" and naturally assumed, for the reason given above by Ev, that it was Orzel.
Curious that one should have a Royal Oak sticker attached.
Part of an orange and brown paper label remains on mine with what is left of "Abbeville Delicacies".
I have posted a similar but smaller item as an Orzel ink bottle at:
http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t4378-orzel-adelaar-ink-pot#15298
I think the two items are identical to the picture above, but it may be that my small one, at 58mm across, is smaller than the one shown.

No you're not looking at the same items again.
These two are 10.5cm and 6cm across.

Comparison of photos shows there are at least three different sizes, maybe four.

ABBEVILLE NEW ZEALAND Empty Abbeville jars are definitely Orzel

Post  Maryr Sat 7 May - 15:11

These Abbeville jars are Orzel. This was confirmed by Cameron and Beverley Brown when we took them some examples. Abbeville made pickles and the like, and were long-term customers of the Orzel pottery.
