Re: Double Bird Mark is the stamp of Pauline Williams
Hi Cat - I looked through the Potters Marks book and couldn't find this mark.
Perhaps it was a potter local to your area if you see this mark around.
The Potters Marks book has around 1500 marks in it and I've read that in the 1979 Census there were about 40,000 people who said they were involved with making pottery, which leaves a huge unknown quantity of marks to be identified yet!

Wow! yes, I suspected it may be a local potter, as I've seen a good half dozen in a week -produces some nice well potted domestic items
Thanks very much for taking time to look - I really must get myself a copy of that book!

Just yesterday I saw this mark on a bowl along with an impressed mark of a capital I with top right looping into a P! Still don't know who that is.

Re: Double Bird Mark is the stamp of Pauline Williams
I have no idea of what part of the country you come from cyrd, but I found an Ian Phillips mark that looks like an I and a P joined together and he comes from the Manawatu. Cat is from that way too. I will find his mark on NZPotters and add a link for you to check out. Thank you!

ian phillips
I borrowed the marks book from the library here in the Hutt Ev. The mark i saw had a flat top like a capital I except at the end on the top right when it curved down to make the capital P. Could still be the same person I suspect as it was incised, not stamped. I have seen that heaps of potters have marks that vary markedly!!!
