It certainly looks like a shape 39 to me.
A lovely triple glaze on that one!

I can just make out 53 below the fraction marks ... perhaps it says 1953 ?

Oh, it's hard to tell if there is anything else there in the glaze besides the 53 or not! Will add a closer shot, but I think anything I can see is just wishful thinking?
