My Kingfisher and 540 bowl

My Kingfisher has no base but is quite heavy. I have also noticed that unlike the white one it has holes in the log base. I assume these were to insert flowers into and the whole thing stood in the bowl of water. This seems to me to be a good reason for there to be no base, as if there was it would get very messy inside with just the hole. Maybe the white one was made solely as an ornament.

Re: My Kingfisher and 540 bowl
Stupid question time: Was this kingfisher with no base MADE by Royal Oak, or decorated by them? The Crown Lynn example has a base and is usually stamped, and I am tying to define the difference between the two please.

Hi Mumof, Both the Kingfisher and the Parrot were made by Crown Lynn and decorated by Royal Oak Pottery.

Thank you Oakpot. Do you mean both Kingfishers? The solid base, and the no base as well?

Hi, I don't recall Royal Oak selling a kingfisher with a solid base.
