Oval Plates
Is there a special name for oval plates, I'm sure I have seen them called something other than "oval plate", but I can't think what it might have been. Of course I might also just be imagining things...

re Oval Plates
According to Wikipedia ,quote
The word ashet can refer to:
A large, shallow, oval dish used for serving food; A term used in Scotland taken from French for plate, 'assiette'.
I believe it was also common in the South Island of NZ at least for the larger versions often used to carve a joint or Chicken from.
The smaller ovals were mainly used for entree dishes or smaller lunch servings but personally don't recall them being common till the 1950's.

Re: Oval Plates
Ashet! that's the word! The only word I could think of was trencher and I knew that wasn't it. I've seen them listed on Trade Me as such, but of course couldn't do a search for them cause I couldn't remember the jolly name! Thanks so much :-)
