Re: Trademe listing Crown Lynn information
Not concerned about the glaze recipe Jonno ...
Now that the questions have been answered I see a lot of interest in the records that he has
I think I've figured out who he is now.....

Ev, if you save this seller as a favourite, you will be e-mailed as soon as they make any other listings. This way you will not miss out on the other info. Here's hoping

Re: Trademe listing Crown Lynn information
Confirmed
Oh I didn't know that he ran those other potteries as well ...
I agree that his records really belong in a Museum, where everyone would have a chance to research them..... *fingers crossed*

Would you believe the bidding
The interest is incredible and he could make a fortune just selling page by page

Re: Trademe listing Crown Lynn information
I had a look in this morning, shortly after the bidding hit $50, does anyone know the bidders? Hopefully whoever wins will make it available to the museum - copies at the least if not the originals.

I've never come across either of the bidders in all my trademe travels ...
Naturally I checked out their history though

Re: Trademe listing Crown Lynn information
Hi there, i see the clark family wants the information back. Jeff being from the first marriage, he would have worked with EC. I notice the information is photo copies right so how many is he going to photo? and do people think they can make crown lynn glazes with the info?

Re: Trademe listing Crown Lynn information
The listing generated an enormous amount of interest didn't it?
Lots of questions as well.
One wonders for what reasons?
Perhaps it captured the imagination of some potters?
It certainly got Val Monks attention .... so perhaps for research reasons?
Or just because it was to do with Crown Lynn history .... which was my reason, but for the others we may never know.
Of course the recipe for the satin matt artware glaze could be trialled by anyone who knows what they are doing. Even if materials that they used are not available nearly 50 years later , it would be easy to find substitutes. Temperatures that they fired to are easily found on the web too.
John Parker has found a very apt glaze for his lathed work that looks so much like the Crown Lynn glaze.
It's a shame that Ernie didn't take up Geoffery's offer of safe keeping, but there must have been quite a few others that did the cadetship and hopefully one or two kept their notes as well?
So to answer you question signal red ..... yes I think that the winner may test out the photocopied glaze .... why not?

Re: Trademe listing Crown Lynn information
Hi Ev, I was just telling Mum about this, and she said that Val is updating the book so is interviewing new people etc. She too thinks it should go to the Auckland Museum but Alan Topham says that because he was the Chief Chemist there, and Crown Lynn isn't a company, he's probably well within his rights. I guess it's the way of the world, but such a pity he couldn't give it to a place where it would be kept safely. Crown Lynn's an important part of NZ's history, and I know many people would be interested in that material.

Re: Trademe listing Crown Lynn information
I guess it's about ethics in the end, myself I have been given things from CL people and they will be kept until the right museum cames along. I see from Eve going to the Auckland Museum and spending time looking at document's the rest of us are in riched my her new knowledge.
