Perhaps a different mould maker at Crown Lynn at some time?
That's all that I can come up with ....

The vase itself is the same size, it's the base that is different. I was wondering if this was a trial when CL bought Titian, as most of their vases have this type of base, not flat.

Hmmm, but when Titian were making Crown Lynn shapes, they had four digits by then, not three!

Gail Henry mentions that workers jumped companies, eg mould maker Vic Lawson.

That makes sense, and there is another on TM with an indented base too http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=500475089

On page 230 Gails book CL had a Roydon tiny tots ware made for Mckenzies mid 1960s maybe Roydon was the Mckenzie brand name.

Somewhere in Val Monk's book it says that the name Roydon came about from the two McKenzie brothers names .... Roy and Don.
I would imagine that anything with that brand name was sold at McKenzies.... wouldn't you signal red?

One of these turned up on the Facebook Q & A page with the indented base and the large number.
I'm not happy with those numbers as they are not the usual font that Crown Lynn used for years and years.

Indented base
I have one with the indented vase too. It’s more white than the older creamy glazed vases I gave.

I showed a Crown Lynn Modeller a photo of the flat base and the indented base and his response was that he was familiar with the flat base, but couldn't comment on the indented base, as he hadn't seen it before.
It has been brought to my attention that there are other shapes with both flat and indented bases. I was shown an indented vase yesterday which was the 633 Sm Pebble Vase and the glaze was not familiar and the finish made me uncomfortable. Mysteries abound
