I'm thinking this is a Dorren Blumhardt but on the tip it has a couple of little chips but also this whte line as shown, was wondering if anyone knows how I could clean it off, have tried washing but because it is a rough surface I have to be careful, what do you thinkI think I have found a treasure Img_1725

That's a lovely and rather unusual lampbase suda.
Though I don't think the mark is Doreen Blumhardt's, as her mark is inside a circle.
Check out this thread to see her mark clearly -

I have a hunch that the white mark is just a deeper line in the clay and hasn't been affected by the flame in the firing to give it a warm colour .... as it looks more like the colour of the clay where the chips show up.
An old toothbrush dipped in detergent would remove any grime on the rough surface easily.

Pumice is good for removing marks that other products won't budge. pretty safe too, I clean my ceramic top with a good hard stone and it is brilliant to get those impossible black marks off the Earthstone range. Not sure how you would get on with pottery but if it is glue remnants or paint you might get a good result.

Thanks for the cleaning info, I'll give it a go tonight.
Sorry it's not a lamp base its actually an upsidedown hanging pot, string removed. A lady in her mid 70s gave it to me and she said her grandmother gave it to her in the 60s. Yes I do agree now that I look at the mark it may not be as I originally thought
(wishful thinking) oh well hunting for treasure is a great hobby although my pottery collection is getting huge.

Re cleaning materials ,
I am a little concerned about the use of pumice which can be quite a variable material. Detergent is fine but if some mild abrasive action is needed I can recommend Chemico which is both a detergent and and a very mild abrasive.

If it's an upside down hanging plant pot, then perhaps we need to look at the mark the other way up?
