Melis has been potting full-time for around 40+ years, and was a teacher at St Paul's Collegiate in Hamilton for 6 years, qualified in art and PE. He is originally from the Netherlands and has many feathers in his cap, see http://nz.linkedin.com/pub/melis-van-der-sluis/1b/92b/33b and also from the Waikato Museum http://www.waikatomuseum.co.nz/news/pageid/2145843392 Ah, an artist in love with the clay and the surrounds from which it was derived - how romantic that writing is!

A slight variation on the mark.
I didn't even see the mark under the fluorescent lights when I picked it up.
Nice surprise.
Can anyone give me an idea of age here?

Melis van der Sluis mug with lovely goopy ash glaze.
I think I got this one in Dunedin at Easter, perhaps Auckland on my return.
