Breathtaking Titian Studio Woodgrain Vase ......
How I applaud you Titian Studios!!!
The sticker dates from c1955 to c1965 according to Gail Henry.
The camera doesn't show the right colour, so I will have to try again as it looks too light.
I can see the solid brown background colour has been put on before the lines for the wood grain. Some lines have been brushed while damp to give an added dimension.
This is just so amazing ....... my new favourite piece

After checking out the Titianpottery blog, I would say that this is the oak woodgrain.
The colour is true on the right upper in the photo.
Would anyone agree with me?

I can see the tone that you are referring to Ev in the top right hand corner but I can't see the pattern as Oak , rather it strongly reminds me very much of wooden artifacts decorated to look look marble. This was a very skilled tecnique much practised in the past using tips of feathers and the like to turn ordinary wooden objects into faux marble.

Re: Breathtaking Titian Studio Woodgrain Vase
Thanks for the link to the Titian Blog Ev,
Yes now I can see Oak as in the last photo of the June 6 2012 Blog 3 Vases same shape but different sizes and the B107-2 on the left could be the one you have and the B197-0 on the right I can see as Oak and as a woodturner I am very impressed with suggested two piece turning with the grains arranged to simulate what a wooden vase would have looked like. Very clever work. The decoraters artisanal skill is right at the top of the scale for me, amazing.

Re: Breathtaking Titian Studio Woodgrain Vase ......
My latest Titian wood grain vase is in the darker mahogany colours. This was given to me as it has a decent sized chip our of the rim. It is such a stunner!!! I had it when we were at Val's book launch and it was in and out of it's bag all evening. Cam Brown Jnr told me how the technique was done and I can make sense of his words. He was delighted to see the vase and related tales about Teddy Rennie. Mary Morrison was happy to see the vase too and it sounds like she has a few of these in her Titian collection ... actually many people enjoyed seeing it and I learnt how rare these wood grain vases really are.
None of these photos do this piece justice and I will have to redo the photos when the light is just right.
