I'm sure I've seen something like this before but what do you type in the search engine?

I HAVE JUST CHANGED THE PHOTO TO INCLUDE ANOTHER RANDOM!
(Half price day at St John's Market. LHS is addition.)

I'd looked at this again and again at Red Cross trying to work it out.
When I wanted something else off the 4-for-$1 shelf I threw it in.

mugs - a totally random mug (or five): Parker Pottery! Random11
90mm H x 68 OD at lip. LHS St John's, RHS Red Cross
Flat bottom, slip cast, no markings.
The colour in the new photo is an accurate representation.
Brown glaze inside. All shiny. Nice feel.
Neither heavy nor light.
Very slight localised crazing in clear glaze, as you get.
(Alternatively crush or impact damage).
--------------------------------------------------------
The left hand mug is a satin glaze, inside and out.
--------------------------------------------------------
I'm not even sure it's New Zealand.
It's nothing flash. I'm just curious.
It may be familiar to someone.
----------------------------------------------------------------
1/12/13 Another makes three.
(Actually I splashed out $5 and got 6 on a mug tree. Don't ask me why!)

Jeremy I have 2 more of these in different glazes. When my computer returns from sick leave I will post px.  I imagine that we can say they're NZ since yours is not alone.

Thanks for joining the party, Maryr. Looking forward to it.

I had an idea Ev had already posted something like this but what can you call it besides "random mug"? I think I saw another at St. John's today, different glaze. It's one thing to spend 25c, but a whole dollar!?! That's what prompted me to show and ask.

It'd be good to nut out another unmarked piece.
(Like those cute Orzel mustard pots.)

Any ideas, guesses, whatever, who they might be?

Note added later... - after more research we have established that these mugs were almost certainly made by Parker Pottery, another Auckland commercial operator.
http://newzealandpottery.forumotion.net/t4880-parker-pottery-more-examples-and-info?highlight=parker

I picked this one up because of the interesting dribbly slobbery glaze... But these mugs are well made, Professional,  much finer than the Orzel and Royal Oak we see around... could they be Stewart? Or someone else again? Lots of questions still!

Maryr,
compare your pictures and mine.
The overall shape and handle shape appear to match, however...
...it may be in the photography, but it appears to me that yours:
(1) have more height above the handle, and are lippier, and
(2) may be taller altogether.
Would you mind getting the tape measure out?
I just checked my measurements and they seem pretty accurate for the RHS (90 x 68) but the LHS is more like 91 H x 70 OD at lip. The base OD for both is about 63mm.

I think we need to get them together to compare. Mine are just over 9 cm tall and 7 cm across the top from outside rim to outside rim. Remembering that a lot of this ware has variations in size from different moulds etc.

Maryr,
Hand Ceramics, Putaruru is still a bit of a mystery to me.
Their marks are often invisible.

As you lived there you may be better acquainted with their glazes etc
and give a quick no to this.

Check out the little vase at
http://www.trademe.co.nz/pottery-glass/auction-667232127.htm

I see a resemblance to your randoms in shape, less so mine.

That speckle is in the glaze and not the body, which jumps out at me as that distinctive Orzel glaze. The mug I got with the Orzel sticker has a footring just like these too. I will put my hand up to say Orzel as they seemed to have a stage where footrings ruled and another era when only flat bottoms were made.

Oop! Point of difference.

Maryr's have foot rings, mine do not!

Sorry Ev, I couldn't read the whole topic while writing the above 2 lines.
I have checked it now, hence the edit.

I'm thinking you are saying that foot ring or not doesn't matter.

Don't worry about that, as the handles are all the same are they not?

Appears to be so.
I should catch up with Maryr next week and we can compare side by side.
Mine match one another.
