Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Does the one on the far right have a little base/stand?
It looks very similar to the 423.

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
I dont think it has enough of a bulbous base to be a 423...

Crown Lynn Waifs and Strays .....
Can we make a combined effort to try and sort out the 20 waifs in the gallery?
Perhaps some shouldn't even be there..... like the standing fish?
Those wee vases must have numbers!! C'mon lets just DO IT!!

Waifs and Strays .....
I had a look at the copy of the Auckland Museum shape guide page for the numbers 419 to 429 - the little vases 423, 424, 425, 426 and 428 are listed as being two and five/eighth inches high or 66.75mm in new money. So if the heights are right the brown and cream waifs could be shape 423, the purpley waif 428 and the yellow 426.
I also wondered if the "vase waif" could be a 60 - looks like there were a number of sizes in this shape. We have a photo of 60-6 and the Museum has a drawing of a 60-10 recorded as 10" high.

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Hi Tony and Ev, if I could just draw your attention to this topic I raised hoping to solve some of the mystery...am not sure which are the brown and creams, but think Tony and I agree on the yellow 426???
I am absolutely certain we have yet to get the 428..John and I went for a group the other week with that one in it and I think we must have missed out??
The green and yellow second from left I think is the 425, I think the yellow (which is the same as the cactus in waifs and strays) is the 426 and he green one the 424.
Purply could be the 423 but worried the base isnt big enough..the brown and yellow one could be a contender for the same number...

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Waif 194 is either a 22 or a 42 so can be deleted in my opinion..
The classic waif(green with cactus) and the yellow waif are the same shape
Waif 2 is the same shape as the vase on trademe at present which may be the Carpay/Steenstra combo (green leaves)..still a shape we have yet to number..
The dogs and the fish can go but need to be put somewhere else, though possibly not Crown Lynn they may still be NZ Pottery..

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
I have deleted the waif 194 - the yellow waif
and also the cream waif as it was the same as the brown waif.
Heather do you think that the spill vase is a 60 something as Tony suggests?
You have one already so you should be able to tell.
Also Heather could you post the fishvase and two dogs in the Is This NZ Pottery topic please... as I only have thumbnails of them. I have deleted them from waifs and strays.
What about the condiment set?
Yellow waif does look like a 426 to me ....
more so the purpley one in the group picture than the single photo above.
and also the cream waif as it was the same as the brown waif.

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Just thought I would bring this topic back up as Ev has posted about a suggested 425 shape...I think we should be able to sort these ones with the sketches we have...

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Thanks Heather.... I knew these little vases were around somewhere all together.
The fact that they are all 'miniature' vases and are 2 and 5 eighths high
is confirmation that we are on the right track.
The drawings are a little misleading - which confuses matters, but we have seen this before.
425 is a definite in my book for the green waif.

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
424 looks correct Heather
425 does too
Just need two others to agree so that we can put them into the gallery

Crown Lynn shape 424
Picked this up today and seeing it in 3D makes it easy to identify the shape..... 424
The three 'ridges' match the museum drawing.

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Thanks to Kat & Co for sending these fabulous photos of two of the 3 in 1 Miniature Vases to the site, as I'm hoping this will get this discussion going again with some conclusions.
Kat & Co says this shape is a possible 425 shape -
This one possibly shape 428 -
This photo shows the bases of the two mini vases above .... none of this series of mini vases were numbered or backstamped that I know of ....

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Just want to post the Museum drawings in here for comparison ....
423
424
425
426
428
That 423 shape looks so much like Kat & Co's poss 428
The 425 shape looks like a match to me with Kat & Co's little red vase ......
Edits to say that what we have in the gallery as a 423 shape, looks like the 428 shape! Oh now we are getting close to solving this ..... just need some confirmation people!

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Kat & Co have confirmed that her two mini vases are 423 and 425 so into the Gallery they go. Thanks so much Kat as this lot have now been sorted
Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
so do you know the numbers of these ones please? The 2nd is a 425 and the 4th a 423 maybe, but the 1st and 3rd (426?)?

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
Heheeee the 3rd is 426 .... can't see the 1st one in that lot in the gallery.... must be elsewhere???
Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
The first vase is the same as the first one on HeatherT's original post on page one, but the colours are backwards, and from reading, there was no conclusion on that one?

Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
I must have picked up a 426 little miniature vase at least half a dozen times in the last many weeks and I found it attractive in every way ..... it came to me in the middle of the night that it was Crown Lynn!! Got it today and how tiny is it ..... very at 2 and five eighths inches! It could be used for violets perhaps - can't think of anything else atm ...
Re: Waifs and Strays - including mini vases
A couple of years on & no more random mini shapes sofar known & since we have no museum pic for shape 427 ... & probably it is a mini vase shape...I propose that this one last unidentified mini vase shape is 427..?
this would be it in sequence with mini vases 425, 426, my 427 & 428
