Nicholas Brandon Teapot
My new teapot to use. Made in 1978 by Nicholas Brandon and had an original price of $25. Porcelain with a celadon glaze. Inside the teapot was a short biography and price list from 1978. He cites Mirek Smisek as a major influence on his development as a potter. "Two months with Mirek Smisek gave me a broad base from which to grow".

Re: Nicholas Brandon Teapot
Very interesting to to read your comments on The influence of Mirek Smisek on Nicholas Brandons work.
When I first saw the piece below I thought it was going to be by Mirek Smisek.

I will add it to the Gallery as Nancy Beck and we can edit it if necessary.

Smisek v Brandon?
This huge pot has the same celadon glaze as my Nicholas Brandon teapot and looks the same shape as the pot that looks like a Smisek. The marks on this are not Brandon's though??

Re: Nicholas Brandon Teapot
Thanks Ev. Only bought it this afternoon and I love it. Quite an imposing size. It is 325 mm across handle to handle. I was quite surprised to see how similar the work of the two potters was. Looking at my Smisek pot from the same angle as Sid's Nicholas Brandon pot they look identical. When I put the teapot with the pot the glaze is the same apart from a few more rusty type specks in the teapot. Brandon's swirl decoration is slightly more incised but apart from that very similar. I wonder if Sid's pot was done when Brandon worked with Smisek??
