I went to a clearance auction today at a private residence, and amongst the many misc items in a box I found this ashtray, which I initially ignored, but as I was rummaging again, I thought I saw a number

It is very faint, and on the curved edge of the pottery in one corner, so I bought the box, and I am sure it is 1148. Not holding my breath, but the dot was what inspired me. Any thoughts? sunny
