I have never heard of Owen Cobb, but he must have been rather accomplished, as Mr Google tells me he has written several pottery books, and was a life member of the Auckland Studio Potters, until he passed at the end of 2009.

Re: Owen Cobb
We lived next door to Owen Cobb and his family in Epsom in the late 1970s. I remember watching him throw pots and dunk them in big buckets of glaze, in his large garage/studio. He let us kids make pinch pots (which my mother still has) and my family used a good number of his pieces daily during the 1980s, I don’t think anything survived our daily family use. He made great functional pottery, from what I recall your piece is in a typical glaze, we also had some in a dark brown (tenmoku?).
