Clay Craft cup with roses decal
haselnuss came by the other day and gave me this octagonal cup.
I recognised it straight away as Clay Craft, but I had never seen any of their work with decals on it. The backstamp is very difficult to read but says Clay Craft Made In New Zealand.

Re: Clay Craft cup with roses decal
Ev,
An interesting thing to have but I wouldn't necessarily buy one.
I'm pretty sure that if it has decals it is not Clay Craft.
Linda, my Clay Craft informant, told me the only transfers she remembers were the ones on the Air New Zealand whiskey buildings.
So yes to Clay Craft shape, but likely a third-party product.
There is one mug in a trio of Clay Craft pieces that's been on tm for a couple of years which has a cherry or apple transfer, which is what led me to ask her.
I don't think the potteries I know of that used Clay Craft moulds (Sanderson and Aotea NZ) used transfers, so there may have been another pottery yet using them.
(And let's not forget that Hobby Ceramics used CC moulds too.)

Yes it is interesting Jeremy. It is the right weight to be Clay Craft and it has the right stamps for it to be that .....or some other pottery, it's definitely not Hobby Ceramics.
Re: Clay Craft cup with roses decal
I totally agree that it is not Hobby ceramics.
