Re: Is this Orzel? No it's a Teal 117 Mug
Janice,
this is what I have told them:
"This mug shape was made by Teal Ceramics from Balclutha. Teal closed in the 1990s. Sometimes moulds were used by others after factories closed but I have not heard of anyone using Teal moulds so this most likely is a Teal mug. Jeremy."
Best I could do without the mug in hand.
It may sound a bit cagey but Keith Sandford told me that unlike most Teal products which were made in factory the mugs were not economical for wage work so they were made as outwork. The moulds, therefore, may not even have been in factory when Teal closed down. I usually see the mug in the two-tone glaze and have not committed Teal glazes to memory so can make no guarantees. I'll look at the items in the gallery for a pink.
Done. I see a pink lidded ramekin in the gallery. Probably the same but presenting under different light in the auction photo.
I just noticed a Teal mug shape I haven't seen before in this listing for wares marked Womens Institute: http://www.trademe.co.nz/antiques-collectables/new-zealand-maori/auction-1213849241.htm
